“Everything in human life is really about sex, except sex. Sex is about power.”
— Oscar Wilde
The infamous Chinese billionaire, Liu Qiangdong, was not only known for his successes in career (he founded Jingdong, the second largest online shopping site beside Taobao), but also for his several “connections” with women.
2015, divorced in his forties, Liu married his celebrity wife who just passed her 20th birthday.
2016, successful and wealthy, Liu responded to a maternity leave request by a female vice manager in Jingdong by saying, “the firm is the same, with, or without you.” She left the firm within a year.
2018, self-assured and powerful, Liu raped a 21-year-old Chinese student at the University of Minnesota. He was accused for Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree: Crime defined; the amor uses force or coercion to accomplish the penetration.
On the night of August 30th a group of twenty four Chinese businessmen arrived a local Japanese restaurant. She was the only female at that night.
She was told that the night was a chance to meet important business figures and listen to their experiences.
After a while, she texted her friend:
“This is a trap.”
They had been forcing her to drink.
“I am already drunk. I am concerned.”
Dinner ended at 10 p.m. Liu requested to take her home. Instead, he took her to his apartment in Minnesota. The dinner cost 2,220 USD, a price he found sufficient enough to compensate for a girl’s virginity.
According to the eye witness, he pulled her into his car.
Her friend received her Wechat:
“Liu started touching me on the car.”
“I begged him not to.”
“He refused.”
On August 31st at 2 a.m. she texted her friend:
“I am not willing. (to have sex with Liu).”
“I will try to escape tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, she begged her friend not to call the police.
“There is nothing we can do about this. He for sure can suppress this.”
“You are underestimating his power.”
When the polices arrived at 1 a.m. Both Liu and the girl were in the room. Fearful of his power, the girl did not accuse him of rape.
“It was a mistake, I only need him to apologize.” She said in tears.
“I need an interpreter.” He said with no emotions.
The school encouraged her to speak up for herself. This brave, smart girl kept the blanket where crime happened and took the examination for rape at the local forensics. She protected her dignity.
“If I am by myself.”
“I could have committed suicide.”
“But at moment I thought of my parents.”
“I can’t let them suffer. ”
