I suck at writing, but can I still join?
You don’t have to be a great writer or know anything about journalism to join. All we ask is be eager to improve, no matter your skill level.
How does the whole thing with NEHS work?
To be inducted into NEHS, you need to apply after you have enough hours. Each article you write will be worth 1 hour. Honestly, hours are important, but NEHS cares more about how dedicated you are and quality of the work you put in. That’s how you can get inducted into NEHS through us, but you don’t have to join NEHS if you don’t want to.
Are there officer positions open?
Three years ago, we founded The Echo and we had very few active writers. Last year we expanded the club and now have four officer positions open. This year, we wish to continue the expansion of The Echo and for our publication to withhold our mission statement, which can be found on our About page. Starting as early as after our September publication, we wish to open up applications for Assistant Editors. Experience in this role will be mandatory for staffers who wish to run for higher officer positions such as Managing Editor, Tech Editor, Social Media Editor, or Editor-in-Chief.
Now let’s be real, we know your colleges and resumes might factor in. In every active club, not everyone is going to get an officers’ position. What’s special about The Echo is every staffer will have the opportunity to publish their writing. You can literally just send in the link to your staffer tag and admission officers will see all the work you’ve done. It gives insight on your writing ability, personality, and interests. So join, and do some writing you’ll actually enjoy.
Omg that all sounds amazing, how do I join?
Reach us at echosas@outlook.com. We meet most Mondays during lunch in Mr. Earley's room.
