Spirit Week

Once a year, SAS organizes a “spirit week” in order for students to relax, let loose, and have some fun while going to school—and this year is no different. For one week from October 30th to November 2nd, students get to dress up every day and not be totally judged by their peers. Executive Council Vice President Riley Evans says that Exec chose to continue the tradition of Spirit Week because “it’s a fun way to build school spirit and gives our classmates to have some fun during a typically stressful time.” Not only did Exec follow the tradition to have some fun, they also did it to “show our diversity and helps unify us,” says Evans.

Monday: Pajama Day
The second you roll into school, there’s a cozy feeling to the school that’s normally not there. Even people who normally dressed to impress have resorted to comfort over style. Unlike usual Mondays, many students were actually in a good mood—showing off their PJs to their friends, or cuddling with their stuffed animal and blankets. Here are some of our favorite outfits of the day!

Tuesday: Halloween Day
Halloween is certainly one of the most popular holidays in the world, and the fact that it falls on a weekday didn’t stop SAS students and teachers from dressing up and showing their Halloween spirit! On this day you could’ve went to watch the elementary school parade—featuring some of the cutest costumes of Avengers or Disney princesses, or you could’ve stayed in the high school commons and listen to everyone exclaim and admire their friends costumes. Can you guess who these people dressed up as?

Wednesday: International Day
At an international school like SAS, there is bound to be a combination of different home countries and cultures. Students can use this day to show off their patriotism and also bring some food from their home country to school during the Potluck. All around the school, there was a myriad of flags, colors, and traditional clothes, creating a beautiful image of a world in harmony. Here are some of the students that used this day to represent their culture and country:

Thursday: Reverse Gender Day
Reverse gender day was a day where students could have dressed up in the stereotypical clothes that their opposite gender usually wore. This day created a hilarious contrast between how people normally dress and how they dressed on this day. Many students opted to dress up in stereotypical clothes of the opposite gender, while others actually impersonated one of their friends from the opposite gender!
