That’s Shanghai’s articles are often sprinkled with puns and references to pop culture. The writing style is rather informal and witty. Its news mainly centers on city life, oddities, and lifestyle. In addition to news articles, you also get a bunch of reviews and recommendations on food, drink, music, art, etc. If you want to know which artists will be playing shows in Shanghai or what art exhibitions are on this month, That’s Shanghai will keep you updated.
CCTV News
WeChat ID: cctvnewsbeijing
CCTV News mainly covers politics, society, and some feature stories. The Chinese government has sway over CCTV, so it’s no surprise that the English CCTV News often includes pro-China bias. However, that does not necessarily mean it’s always wrong. In fact, you may be able to get a more accurate picture of reality by taking in both Western news reports and CCTV’ s reports on the same event. For example, when Fidel Castro died, America’s NPR only talked about how some Cubans hated Castro and are celebrating his death. China’s CCTV only wrote about how Cubans all loved Castro and are mourning is death. For those of us who have grown accustomed to the bias in Western news, the CCTV can bring up valid perspectives that are overlooked by Western news.
China Daily

Similar to CCTV News, China Daily is also a national and state-controlled news source. It also contains bias, which you can use to your advantage for similar reasons. China Daily’s articles also tend to focus on politics more, but compared to CCTV News, it includes more articles on Chinese society and development. It also includes some features on whatever’s viral in China.

Shanghaiist
WeChat ID: shanghai_ist
Often considered competitors with That’s Shanghai, the Shanghaiist takes a similar perspective on news. However, the Shanghaiist’s WeChat platform mainly publishes news articles on oddities, viral stories, and Chinese society. There are fewer articles about lifestyle and city events, but to make up for that, you usually get between three and six articles per day.
Below is a step-by-step guide on finding official WeChat accounts.
